Short, direct answers to the questions students ask most.

What is the best way to prepare for IELTS in Algeria?

Train under real exam conditions: timed drills, full computer-based mock tests, and feedback on the specific habits that cost you marks. Content knowledge alone rarely moves a band score; exam behaviour does. Ted.Talks.DZ is built around this approach for Algerian students.

How is IELTS scored?

Each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) is scored from 0 to 9 in half-band steps. The overall band is the average of the four scores, rounded to the nearest half band.

What IELTS band score do I need?

It depends on the university, program or visa. Many academic programs ask for 6.0 to 7.0 overall, with minimum sub-scores in some skills. Always check the exact requirement of the institution you are applying to.

What is the difference between IELTS Academic and General Training?

Listening and Speaking are the same. Reading and Writing differ: Academic uses academic texts and a graph/chart/diagram description for Task 1, while General Training uses everyday and workplace texts and a letter for Task 1. Universities normally require Academic.

How long is the IELTS test?

About 2 hours 45 minutes in total: Listening 30 minutes, Reading 60 minutes, Writing 60 minutes, and a Speaking interview of 11 to 14 minutes (Speaking may be on a different day).

How is IELTS Writing marked?

Four equally weighted criteria: Task Achievement (Task 1) or Task Response (Task 2), Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Task 2 carries about twice the weight of Task 1.

How long does it take to go from Band 5.5 to 6.5?

There is no fixed timeline; it depends on your starting skills, weekly study hours and how targeted your practice is. A single band is a meaningful jump and usually takes months of consistent, feedback-driven practice rather than weeks.

Does Ted.Talks.DZ offer IELTS mock tests?

Yes. The Flight Simulator offers full, timed, computer-based mock tests (Reading, Listening, Writing) under real exam conditions.

Which languages does Ted.Talks.DZ support?

Material and coaching support English, French and Arabic, reflecting the typical Algerian student profile: Arabic as first language, French as second, English as third.

Computer-delivered or paper-based IELTS: which should I take?

Both give the same score scale. Choose the format you practise in. If you take the computer-delivered test, practise on screen; that is why Ted.Talks.DZ mock tests are computer-based.
